September 23, 2011 1:00 PM

Every Friday at noon, EST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the New York area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

TONIGHT! AZTEC TWO-STEP 40th Anniversary Tour ~ CD Release Party! Aztec Two-Step's debut album was named one of the top five classic folk albums by Real Simple magazine in '07, joining work by Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Tom Rush and Phil Ochs; also "...surpassing Simon and Garfunkel for exquisite harmonies, musicianship and emotion." Their music was a staple of progressive FM and college radio, helping to bring the music of the 1960s into the '70s. Aztec Two-Step continues to impress audiences with their shimmering, intricately textured twin guitar sound, as well as their intelligent songwriting ~vintage & brand new~ and their inspiring harmonies.

TONIGHT! The Black Power Mixtape: 1967-1975  Starting in 1967 a number of journalists for Swedish television sent film crews to the United States to interview major figures in the Black Panther Party and the larger Black Power movement. Filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson has used some of this archival footage as the basis for the documentary The Black Power Mixtape: 1967-1975, which includes vintage interviews with Angela Davis, Eldridge Cleaver, Huey P. Newton, Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, and Louis Farrakhan. The newsreels are accompanied by recent interviews with artists, activists, and cultural historians who discuss this period in American history, including Harry Belafonte, Abiodun Oyewole, Melvin Van Peebles, Erykah Badu, rapper Talib Kweli, and many others.

Saturday, September 24 Jester's Dead  Top Gun. Shakespeare. "Jester's Dead" re-imagines the classic 80s flick, Top Gun, in a theatrical parody packed with swordfights, songs, and text from every play in Shakespeare's canon. In this adrenaline-fueled mashup, we're going straight to the danger zone.

Saturday, September 24 MICHELINE VAN HAUTEM - "LA MUSIQUE"  Micheline Van Hautem (Belgium) will perform one night only in Manhattan, singing her award winning renditions of Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf. Special guest is fabulous cabaret singer Karen Kohler; and after the show, Micheline hands out Neuhaus chocolate (always good to have a Belgian in the house). Micheline is flanked by The Huxley Vertical Cabaret Nouveau Orchestra. Musical director/ accordionist Seth Bedford writes surprisingly new arrangements to Micheline's French and English chansons. Micheline co-writes with Tim Finn (Crowded House) and collaborates with Bruno Brel (nephew of) and sings from the top of her lungs to sold out houses all over the world: from The Florence Gould Hall, receiving the Back Stage Bistro Award, over Edinburgh, where honored with the Herald Angel Award, to the Sydney Opera House.

Monday, September 26 The Oyster and Beer Dinner Classic Long Island oyster farmer, Karen Rivara, and beer maven, Jimmy Carbone, are conspiring to serve you a remarkable four course oyster and beer dinner. You'll enjoy Peconic Pearls, from Long Island's Peconic Bay,and Mystics, from the mouth of Connecticut's Mystic River, paired with specially selected beers. Karen and Jimmy will be on hand to talk about the oysters and the beers. Proceeds from this dinner will benefit the activities of not-for-profit Slow Food NYC, including the Urban Harvest program of good food education for New York City kids.
