Hot Tickets: Seattle

September 15, 2011 12:00 PM
Every Thursday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets will post upcoming events happening in the Seattle area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Friday, September 16 Jacket Summer (Damien Jurado and Full Band), Brother Bear and Cumulus From the Sound on the Sound blog: "Known better by his own name, this iconic local songwriter is changing things up this Friday, playing with a full band and showing a side of himself and his new record that none of us have seen yet and we may never see again. Despite a label and decade spanning career, we think he's writing the best songs of his life right now and we are so excited he's agreed to play another show for us, whatever name he has to go by. Secret is out - JACKET SUMMER IS DAMIEN JURADO, with a full band. Joining Jacket Summer will be Brother Bear and Cumulus, two bands that credit our headliner as huge inspirations in the creation of their own songs."

Saturday, September 17 TomatoFare 2011 TomatoFare celebrates the spirit of the season's harvest and encourages home gardeners to carry on the honoured tradition of seed-saving and growing their family's own organic heirloom tomatoes. It truly is a unique community festival for food & wine lovers, chefs, family gardeners and farmers. It's a celebration of life! TomatoFare's mission is to create an ample supply of locally grown organic Heirloom Tomatoes and make our state the largest grower of heirloom tomatoes in the Pacific Northwest.  Another mission is to bring growers and chefs together.

Saturday, September 17 2nd Annual SALMON DEMOLITION DERBY The second annual Salmon Demolition Derby to benefit Art with Heart happens this Saturday! This is officially a Coho derby, so it will be fast and furious. It is also an open derby  so anybody can win, as long as tickets are purchased before the big day. Fish must be weighed in by noon and there are big prizes (including a flat screen TV!)for the winners.

Sunday, September 18 Now and Then: The Metropolitan Tract Explore the area surrounding University Street, the former home of the Territorial University of Washington in what is now a thriving part of downtown Seattle.  The tour will include photos of the old university in conjunction with discussions about current architecture and the development of the Metropolitan Tract. Tour covers multiple buildings, including the Cobb Building, 5th Avenue Theater, and the IBM Building.

Wednesday, September 21 Rat City Roller Prom A second chance at Prom the way it could have been, and this time it's on roller skates. Get a tux or a gown, find a date and come get down!
