Hot Tickets: Los Angeles

August 29, 2011 12:00 PM

Every Monday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets will post upcoming events happening in the Los Angeles area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Tuesday, August 30 through Friday, September 2 Gainsbourg and His Girls Throughout his life, French singer-songwriter, actor and director Serge Gainsbourg composed for some of the most beguiling songstresses including Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin and Vanessa Paradis. His lyrical brilliance has left an extraordinary musical legacy that spans numerous musical genres. Twenty years after his death, director Pascal Forneri presents "Gainsbourg and His Girls," an enlightening documentary on one of France's most provocative and cherished figures, seen through the eyes of his many muses.

Wednesday, August 31 LA Art Tours The world's largest Arts Colony is right here in Los Angeles. 27 acres. 13 Buildings. Hundreds of unique studios and lofts housing over 300 artists. Most of the studios and lofts are only open to the public during the yearly Art Walk. We'll give you a chance to skip the jostling crowds of thousands and instead see the artists in their own environment in an intimate setting. A truly unique tour, this is not to be missed.

Wednesday, August 31 Summer de Amor y ObsesiĆ³n-EL CID Mexican-Ecuadorian-American singer Gabriela Crowe stars in a cabaret show that uses opera, romantic Latin boleros and 60's pop to depict a doomed love affair that hurts so good. She is accompanied by the TC4 (from The Damselles), master flamenco guitarists, back-up singers and tango dancers.

Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3 Improvatorium's - pure improv Improvatorium is at it again! The company that brought you "Zombience" and "Hitchcocked," brings you two weekends of hilarious short form improv at Theatre Asylum. In a town awash with Long Form, Cage Matches, Teams and Competitions, Improvatroium dares to stick out its improvisational neck to return to improvised scenes, songs, extended scenes,  and maybe one or two  of those traditional improv "games"  that are now almost considered retro!

Friday, September 2 to Thursday, September 8 THE AFTERLIGHT In a haunting and beautiful countryside, a young couple hopes to start a new life. Andrew and Claire find themselves far from their roots. They move into an old schooldhouse that sits on a farm owned by an elderly widow and her blind niece, Maria. The couple's arrival sets off events that will alter all the lives of everyone around them. As tensions build, a late summer thunderstorm and a solar eclipse trigger dark outcomes.
