LouFest Hits St. Louis Next Weekend!

August 19, 2011 12:00 PM

Get excited St. Louis because LouFest is almost here and features a dream lineup for all lovers of indie rock, hip hop and Americana.

The lineup would be stellar for one of the more established indie-music festivals  but LouFest is only in its second year and is already drawing top-notch talent. That's a testament to the drive and vision of the production team who have managed to secure national headliners like The Roots, TV on the Radio, Cat Power (Her only festival performance in 2011!), !!!, The Low Anthem and The Hold Steady along with the best musical acts St. Louis has to offer: John Hardy & the Public, Troupadour Dali and Old Lights among others.

LouFest is also bringing a new stage to the festival this year. Back in May they hosted a High School Battle of the Bands and of the twelve bands that entered, six were chosen including teen rockers Dear Genre and Dubb Nubb. The winners will be performing on the Area K Stage both days of the festival and you can see the schedule for Area K here. Area K provides a kid-friendly environment for St. Louis' little rockers and will feature activities like The Magic House, the Missouri Botanical Gardens, a rock-climbing wall and Fazio's Rock Academy.

And if that's not enough, there will be some great after-parties going on for the late-night crowd. Members of Deerhunter and Questlove from The Roots will be performing DJ sets at The Gramophone on Saturday night and the Official LouFest After-Party featuring DJ Clockwork, DJ Trashtalk and more will go down at The Flamingo Bowl on Sunday night.

Oh St. Louis, you don't know how lucky you are to have LouFest. The rest of the nation's music lovers  will certainly envy you next weekend. This years LouFest promises to be much bigger than last years and tickets are still available so get yours here before they're gone. If you aren't in St. Louis, make the trip and experience a festival that is sure to become one of the countries premier indie music festivals in its youth. Ten years from now you can say "I was there."
