Conan Hits the Big Screen in Brooklyn and Mesa, Arizona This Week!

August 01, 2011 3:00 PM

It has been a crazy couple of years for Conan O'Brien, his popular late night TV show on was cancelled, he briefly hosted The Tonight Show before quitting amongst a highly publicized conflict with NBC, then returned with a new late night show on TBS. After his departure from the The Tonight Show, O'Brien was contractually banned from appearing on television, radio and the internet for six months so he used that time to hit the road for a 32 city music and comedy tour as an attempt to build his improvisational chops back up after years of being a popular television personality.

The shows, appropriately titled "The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour"  differed from his television shows in that they were presented as a variety show featuring music, video bits, comic performance and stand-up comic performers. There was no desk or celebrity interviews and Conan performed music throughout the show including a parody of "On the Road Again."

Filmmaker Rodman Flender filmed the show for his documentary "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop," an intimate portrait of O'Brien in the most improvisational time in his career, performing on stage in front of his adoring fans across the country. Flender also provides insight into O'Brien's private writers room and rehearsals, providing a personal, up-close portrait of one of today's most treasured comedic talents hitting the stage for the first time in many years.

Brown Paper Tickets is ticketing two screenings of the documentary on both sides of the country. The Royale in Mesa, Arizona is showing the film tonight through Thursday, August 4 and you can get tickets here. Also, indieScreen in Brooklyn, New York is showing the film through Thursday and tickets for this screening are available here. If you didn't get a chance to see any of shows live get out there and see Conan on the big screen and support an independent movie theatre while you're at it.
