MORRISVILLE, NC, January 11, 2011:  Tobacco Road Tours (TRT), the Triangle areas only daily guided tour service introduces the Raleigh "City of Oaks" Historic Walking Tour.  What better way to see Raleigh's historic sites than a professionally guided walking tour? The "City of Oaks" is a 1.5 mile professionally guided walking tour is designed for guests seeking a high value, educational, enlightening and FUN experience. Explore the lives and accomplishments of early North Carolina & Raleigh leaders. Discover the who, what, when, where and why of Raleigh's existence from the 1780's to current day.
The Raleigh "City of Oaks" Historic Walking Tour runs on Saturday & Sunday year round. Tour meets on the Capitol Square lawn by the West entrance (near the Presidents memorial & fountain). On this one-of-a-kind tour, you will walk from Union Square (State Capitol)to the Legislative Building, Blount Street (Governor's Executive Mansion), down Fayetteville Street, through Moore's Square & City Market to the Progress Energy Performing Arts complex. You visit and learn about 18 different historic sites with TRT's professional guides.
Participants step back in time while holding maps, photographs, engravings and original colonial documents! They discover, colonial Raleigh as it once was  a bustling government, education and retail city where legislators, civic leaders, merchants, & business created the fastest growing city in the state for decades. Discover hidden parks, gardens, and other delights while experiencing colorful history and distinctive old architecture of Raleigh's Government district. Step through history discovering historic monuments, fountains, and the earliest to modern skyscrapers.
