Top 10 Albums of 2010

December 17, 2010 9:18 AM
Posted by Jon Hamilton
One of my big homework assignments at this time of year is to figure out my Top 10 Albums of the year for the KEXP blog.

Scroll down to Jon Hamilton, it's alphabetical by last name.

There were a few other records that really tickled my fancy this year that did not make it into the top 10.  So I wanted to say a couple of things about them here.

Breathe Owl Breathe - "Magic Central"
This collection of fairytale storytelling and dreamy folk rock makes for one of the most cohesive albums in years.  "Dragon" is totally my current winter jam, and one of my favorite songs of the year.

Wolf Parade - "Expo 86"
Any project that involves Spencer Krug is going to be A-OK by me.

I think that 6 months from now, I'll wonder how in the world this album wasn't in my top 5 let alone top 10.  I really love this record, and everything that Wolf Parade has done up to this point.

This is not my favorite Wolf Parade album though, and I think that is causing me to downgrade this record in comparison to others.

Of Montreal - "False Priest"
Just yesterday my friend Jim remarked to me, "Why doesn't the world realize that Of Montreal is the greatest band of all time?  I mean, f@!* The Beatles!"

I don't know why Jim.  Especially when one takes into account Of Montreal's amazing live show, and they should be selling millions of records and playing sold out arenas every week.
Other bands would sell trade their first born children to put together a 3 album run as good as this Athens powerhouse had had since 2007.
If you aren't on the bandwagon yet, it's not too late.
