Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival in the Pacific Northwest
Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival in the Pacific Northwest
Thursday, Feb 22-25, 2007
Sheraton Tacoma Hotel, Tacoma, Washington

A little more milk in your biscuits, a little more rosin on your bow.
A little more rain always seems to help the Wintergrass grow.

~LANCE KAGEY

The phones rang off the hook with orders from excited people from Alaska to NYC couldn't wait to go to Wintergrass 2006, the largest indoor bluegrass festival in the entire world. Until someone proves otherwise we are going to dare say the biggest in the Universe. Wintergrass is an event for everyone from grandma to babes in arms. This Bluegrass Festival has so much spirit that the music couldn't be contained to just concert halls. There was spontaneous music being played in the lobbies, in the halls, and in open hotel rooms. There were even jams in the elevator. We heard rumors of knitting circles, bluegrass karaoke and all night dance parties in the Sheraton Ballroom.

Blue what????

In recent years the popular movie soundtrack for "O'Brother Where art Thou" has brought Bluegrass music to mainstream Americans attention again. Bluegrass music is considered an American genre with its roots in traditional music of immigrants from the British Isles, particularly those that settled in the Appalachian Mountains well as the music of rural African-Americans, Jazz and Blues. Bluegrass relies heavily on the sounds of acoustic stringed instruments like fiddle, banjo, acoustic guitar, mandolin and upright bass.

At Wintergrass you can hear artists from a variety of traditional, acoustic and bluegrass musical backgrounds. Throughout the festival, Bluegrass, Appalachian Old Time, Americana roots, Irish fiddle tunes, Folk, Western Swing, Honky-Tonk, "Jazzgrass" and even a bit of French Canadian stylings were heard on five different stages. All bands played at least twice so you could enjoy all of your favorite bands in a variety of settings.
