The reason for live events is a simple matter of humanity. Sharing interests and sharing experience are two great ways of building communtiy. On the way out of any theatre the same promise is made by many - "Why don't we go out to the theatre more often? Let's make this a regular thing!" And so it goes, another live events fan is born. Recorded film and music have nothing to worry about, who's not going to buy the album after seeing the concert?
Our mission here at Brown Paper Tickets is to build community. Our plan is to offer the best possible tools to the industry and charge as little as possible to the ticket buyers as possible. This should keep more money in the pockets of the producers so they can produce more shows, and the ticket buyers can use their savings to see more live events!
There's another reason to get out to live events more often. It is an important world industry. Some artists travel the world sharing their traditions with cultures they've never dreamed existed. These artists are sometimes paid, and sometimes rewarded just with the experience. This exchange of art and performance is as important as the chatter between world leaders! By frequenting more live shows in place of perhaps another form of entertainment like a movie - you are directly supporting your local community.
When people talk about their local economy and suggest buying locally, think about your entertainment. Sure, you can rent movies from the local video store, but who's really making the money on that rental? Take a look at your local menu of live events and see what's happening - for real!
