FIREROCK: PASS THE SPARK
What:  2018 Concert Performance Premiere and DIY Launch!

Firerock: Pass the Spark is a DIY uplifting musical and community engagement project that activates hearts, imaginations and communities to meet the challenges of climate change.  At its core is a warm, mythical, family-friendly musical that helps us connect to each other and our beautiful planet at this critical time.  The concert launch features Grammy award winning music director, Enrico de Trizio (Dear Evan Hansen) and performer Gina Breedlove as Firerock, who originated the character of Sarabi in the Broadway production of The Lion King.   Join them and Santa Fe based director Acushla Bastible, founder & composer Molly Sturges and performer Charles Gamble playing the bumbling Otter for this magical and compelling event.

Firerock: Pass the Spark has been designed to have tremendous impact reaching hundreds of people. The Firerock Team started dreaming about this project over 7 years ago and we are now finally ready to share it. The story is gripping. The characters are compelling. The music is uplifting. And, in addition to creating a stage version, Firerock has partnered with visionary advocacy groups to develop powerful audience and community engagement strategies. We did this to ensure that people leave the experience with a real sense of what they can do and why it matters that we each participate in our own way.  Developed by a national team of artists and climate activists in collaboration with communities across the country, Firerock is designed to evolve with each performance and engagement.

The team is made of  incredible team of writers, composers, designers, activists, university and school students, scientists, activists and community groups that have helped us develop and refine the story by sharing their greatest fears and challenges in the face of an increasingly unpredictable climate. We know that this kind of inspiring storytelling and community action is needed now more than ever.  The team has developed it over years with hundreds of community members including coal miners, native communities, universities and more. We are in the last phases of our launch and have a premiere  and launch scheduled for January  2018 in Santa Fe, NM. We have amazing performers and an incredible creative and production team set to join us. Amongst them, our Grammy award winning music director, Enrico de Trizio (Dear Evan Hansen) and Gina Breedlove, who originated the character of Sarabi in the Broadway production of The Lion King, and will be playing the character of Firerock herself in our January premiere.

Why: Climate disruption is one of the greatest challenges humanity has ever faced. Confronting it requires that we find emotional connection and pathways to meaningful participation in efforts to mitigate climate change. Firerock uses heart, hope, and imagination at a time of great urgency to connect us with ourselves, each other, and the planet. It helps build the relationships and resources we need to transition away from a fossil-fuel dependent world.
